Tactical Communications

Studies on basic techniques of tactical communications including digital communications, wireless communications, multiple access schemes, and mobile networks. Covers tactical communication architecture, tactical trunk system, combat radio systems, data distribution system, tactical airborne system, and tactical data links.

 
Defense Policy

‘Defense Policy’ examines theory and practice of defense policies in depth. After this subject, they will contribute for national security and defense policy planning.

 
Theory and Application of NCW

This course is aimed at providing students with most important theories and best practices of Network-Centric Warfare. The topics of this course will be covered as following;

  1. (1) Basic Concepts : Enterprise, Architecture, etc.
  2. (2) NCW Concepts and Characteristics of EA : NCW Integration Model, NCW Primitive Language, NCW-based Military Value
    Chain, NCO
  3. (3) NCW Approach : DoD(US), MoD(UK), etc.
  4. (4) NCW Applications : GIG, NCOW RM, NCO CF, NCO-based MOE

ISR Systems Operational Analysis

The course aims to introduce the theoretical and operational laws on ISR weapon systems in order to enhance the operational effectiveness. The required knowledge is the basic operational concept on sensor systems. The following areas will be covered: Land/Sea/Air ISR weapon systems overview & operational concept, radar sensor principles, infrared & image sensor principles, communication networks for ISR systems, electronic threat analysis, mitigations for electronic threat, and framework for ISR resource allocation.  ※ ISR (Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance)

 
NCW and Military Strategy

This course deals with theories and reality of military strategy and provides understanding on the nature of war and military strategy, and studies strategic thinking needed for national security strategy on the Korean peninsular.

 
Military Planning based on NCW

This study focussed on ‘Military Planning based on NCW.’ After this class, students will be ready to contribute for military planning, and defense policy planning.

 
National Security Strategy

Understanding․explaining․predicting knowledge of administration related national security and defense issues through learning administration related security and defense administration as well as basic concept of administration , and increasing the capacity of application on security administration.

 
Capability-Based Requirement Engineering

This course is aimed at providing students with most important theories and best practices of Capability-Based Requirement Engineering. The topics of this course will be coved as following;

  1. (1) Overview and Characteristics : Enterprise, Architecture, Capability, Enterprise Architecture, Mission Capability Package,
    etc.
  2. (2) Development Process and Methods : Architecting, Engineering, Archi-Engineering, Capability Engineering, Capability-
    Based Engineering, DoD/MoD AFt
  3. (3) Implementation Examples : DoD(JCIDS), MOD, etc.

Modeling & Simulation

This course deals with the various topics in the defense modeling & simulation. Development of new weapons systems for the future war is increasingly becoming too costly and complicated. While at the same time, the effectiveness of the new weapons systems have to be verified and enhanced through the computer simulation even before the physical prototype is completed. Due to this reason, modeling and simulation techniques are recently receiving a lot of attentions. The course is not intended to give an exhaustive treatment of either the theory of simulation or of the domain knowledge of defense. Sufficient coverage of both will be given to enable students to treat, in reasonable depth, the application of the former to the latter.

 
Weapon Systems Engineering

The course introduces weapon systems analysis in order to achieve the operational efficiency through modeling mathematically the effectiveness of shooter systems and surveillance systems. The required knowledge is the fundamental understanding on diverse weapon systems and the basic statistics and probability theory. The following areas will be covered: statistics and probability basic theory, missile flight trajectory model, strike precision analysis, air to surface missile analysis, surface to surface direct and indirect weapon analysis, target acquisition, C4ISR and networking.

 
System of systems Engineering

This course is aimed at providing students with most important theories and best practices of System of Systems. The topics of this course will be coved as following;

  1. (1) The basic concepts and characteristics of SOS
  2. (2) SOS related Concepts : Enterprise, Architecture, Interoperability, DoD/MND AF
  3. (3) SoS approach : SEI of Carnegie Mellon University, DoD of USA, MoD of UK, MND of Korea(Plan-Development-
    Operation/Maintenance)
  4. (4) Term Project
 
Project Management

Studies on project management capabilities related with development of large scale information systems and the role of project management required during the whole life cycle of software system development. Improves project management skill through case studies.

 
Interoperability

This course is aimed at providing students with most important theories and best practices of Interoperability. The topics of this course will be covered as following;

  1. (1) Back Ground, Concepts and Characteristics, Maturity Model of Interoperability
  2. (2) IT Standard Development Method : Standard Concepts, IT Standard Development Method based-on TRM
  3. (3) Implementation Case Study : The System Aquisition Method base-on COTS
  4. (4) Interoperability Approach : MND(Korea), DoD(USA), MOD(UK), NATO, EU. etc.

M&S Programming

 

This is a basic course, starting with the very elemental M&S concepts, and terminating with some optional advanced topics especially in tactical data link. We do not pretend to include all M&S topics here, but it seems that after this course, the student will have a good introductory orientation to continue his/her education and to use M&S in a professional way.

Web Based Information Service

Web-Based Information Service (System) is crucial for building software systems of Network Centric Warfare (NCW). This course introduces basic knowledge and applications for Web Based Information Service design. Topics include:

Tactical Communication Networking

This course will cover the communication protocols and architecture related to the Network centric warfare as well as the tactical network environment. Especially, the essential protocols and data service at the network layer, transport layer, and application layer will be studied. In addition, the quality of service methodologies will be covered which provide the differentiated delivery service according to the importance of the data in the tactical environment.

 
Introduction to Information Assurance

This lecture introduces the information assurance which protects any kinds of informations over TICN(Tactical Information Communication Network) and the TICN itself securely. For understanding the concepts of secure communication, cryptographic algorithms such as symmetric key algorithms, public key algorithms, electronic signatures, and so on will be lectured. Secure communication techniques over insecure networks will be also explained. Moreover, how to design Firewalls and construct safe network server systems against various hacking methods, and design secure devices such as military radio-telegraphs will be introduced.

 
Information Operation
  1. (1) understand the role, domain, relationship among domains, and primitive of information at the information age warfare.
  2. (2) understand the goal, task describing method, effect evaluation, and operational concept of information warfare through
    concept framework of information warfare
  3. (3) understand organizing method for the information warfare cell, working group, and target integration. Understand the flowof mission of electronic warfare educating planning process of attack and defense missions step by step, which are to be done by this organization.
  4. (4) understand system and procedures of information assurance for privacy, availability, integrity, authenticity and
    nonrepudiation of the information.
  5. (5) help acquire the planning ability of electronic warfare educating sensor and function of ELINT, and mission management
    procedure and mission execution process.

C4ISR System Engineering

The objective of the course is to introduce the design knowledge on the successful establishment of C4ISR systems. The first part of the course consists of command & control theory, system engineering process, C4ISR structure and issues in design, three-step design methodology, and mission oriented analysis. The second part of the course consists of C4ISR reference model, system level structure & configuration and design experiment of C4ISR systems.

 
NCO C2 Theory and Effectiveness Analysis

The course introduces the methodology for analysing the effectiveness of combat mission by leveraging the basic knowledge on understanding the information warfare and command & control based on the Network Centric Warfare concepts. The following areas will be covered: NCW theory, information age vs. industrial age, command & control basic theory, information age command & control and process, mission effectiveness by C4ISR, effectiveness framework and elements, case study for effectiveness analysis.

 

 

Military Strength in Northeast Asia

 

The Military Strength in Northeast Asia is to analyse military balance in Northeast Asia including the US, Japan, China, Russia, Taiwan and North Korea. The purpose of this subject is to expand students’ understanding military environment in Northeast Asia. After this class, they will be prepared to contribute for strengthening national security strategy and defense policy.

 

 

Combined & Joint Operations

 

This study examines ‘Combined Operations and Joint Operations’ including theory, doctrine and strategy, war history in depth. Completing this course work successfully, they will contribute for military strategic planning and defense policy for national defense.

 

 

Seminar on Military Strategy

This study examines ‘Military Strategic Thought, Weapon System, War History, Force-Building in depth by Specialists in related areas. Lectures with Presentations and Q&A Sessions will strengthen students’ academic knowledge in theory and practice. 

 

 
NCW seminar

The course introduces technical writing skills in critical thinking, research, and document design. Assignments include composing a research paper as a term project and students will gets feedbacks from a lecturer, an academic advisor, and colleagues while they write the paper.

 
Future and NCW 

‘Future War and NCW’ examines contemporary war theoretically. And it analyses future war trend based on advanced countries’ defense postures. After this class, they will be ready to contribute for military strategic planning and defense policy making.

 

 

Strategy for Command and Control(C2) based upon Net-Centric

The object of this subject is providing the capability of application that is a development of strategy on understanding C2 in order to explore and develop for the way of Command and Control based on NCO-CF, NEC, F&C, Mission Command. It includes traditional C2 concepts and principles; new C2 concepts, principles, strategy for developments based upon NC; and the ROK’s C2 strategy based on advanced countries’ lessons. 

 

 

Interoperability and Jointness based on Net-Centric

It includes Concept of Network-Centric, Evolution of NC Concept, Interoperability based on NC, Jointness in military operations based on NC, and Relationship between Interoperability and Jointness. It also includes an Evaluation Model for the Joint Combat Operational Capability based on Interoperability in the Net-Centric Environment. And, it further studies a Case Study on Interoperability and Joint Operations.
